Toyota Service F A Q

Why won't my key turn in the ignition?
Your steering wheel may be in the locked position. Try turning your steering wheel about an inch in either direction while simultaneously turning your key. If the problem persists, please give us a call at (844) 206-4893 .

Why is my tire pressure warning light on?
Any time the tires are rotated, or the tire pressures change this warning light come on. Simply follow the instructions in your owner's manual or give us a call, at (844) 206-4893 , to walk you through how to easily reset this light.

What does ToyotaCare include?
The ToyotaCare no cost maintenance plan covers normal factory recommended maintenance for 2 years/25,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the date of first use. Also included is 24- hour roadside assistance for 2 years from the date of first use.

Does this plan provide an oil and filter change every time my vehicle's maintenance light comes on?
Yes, within the ToyotaCare 2 year coverage, if your vehicle's maintenance schedule calls for this service every 5000 miles. However, if, for example, your vehicle uses synthetic oil and an oil change is required every 10,000 miles, then the oil and filter change will not be provided during the 5000-mile interval.

Why do I have to leave my vehicle? Can't it just be looked at really quick?
When vehicles are dropped off to us, we dispatch them to the certified Toyota technicians in the order they came in. This way we are fair to everyone. Depending on shop flow, your vehicle may not be looked at until later in the morning or early in the afternoon the day you scheduled. Your service appointment time is for vehicle drop off and not when a technician will start working on your vehicle.
We do offer "Waiter" appointments at specific times for regularly scheduled maintenance. When scheduling your next appointment, inform your Reservations Specialist that you'd prefer to wait during your vehicle’s service, and they will advise you of available dates and times.

How do I determine if my vehicle has conventional or synthetic oil?
2009 and older Toyota vehicles came with conventional oil. For 2010 and new Toyota vehicles, refer to the Specifications section of your vehicle's Owner's Manual for oil type, or give us a call at (844) 206-4893.

If I have a Toyota that uses synthetic oil with a 10,000-mile oil change interval, why do I need to come in for service every 5,000-miles/6-months?
Toyota recommends other services that should be performed on your vehicle such as a tire rotation, fluid level inspection and brake inspection. Please refer to your vehicle's Warranty & Maintenance Guide or give us a call.

My vehicle uses conventional motor oil. If I switch to synthetic motor oil can I extend the oil change intervals?
Toyota does not recommend extending the oil change interval. We recommend continuing to follow your vehicle's Warranty and Maintenance Guide.

What does ToyotaCare roadside assistance include?
The 24-hour roadside assistance plan covers battery jump start, tire service, emergency fuel delivery, lockout protection, towing and winching. Roadside assistance is offered for 2 years from the vehicle's date of first use with no mileage limitation. Toyota will tow the vehicle to our dealership (or to the nearest Toyota dealership within 25 miles if outside our area). For detailed information on roadside assistance please contact (844) 206-4893 .

Do you have wireless Internet available in your waiting area?
Yes, our Toyota service facility offers free wireless Internet to customers waiting for service.

How do I schedule a service visit?
You can schedule a Toyota service appointment by calling our Service Department directly, at (844) 206-4893 or online simply by using our online service appointment scheduler.

What does it mean when the yellow check engine light comes on?
This means that the computer in the Toyota has identified a condition that requires immediate attention. There are hundreds of possibilities, but it may be as simple as a loose fuel cap; however, in order to be sure, contact our Toyota service department promptly to have your vehicle inspected. Ignoring this warning light may end up causing further damage. When you drop off your vehicle for your appointment, one of our Toyota certified technicians will connect proper diagnostic tools to your vehicle and identify the failure code(s). Our Fordham Toyota Service department will not be able to tell you why the warning light has illuminated until you bring in your vehicle for a technician to properly diagnose.

If the battery in the Smart Key dies, is there an alternate way to enter the vehicle and start the engine?
There is a mechanical key within the Smart Key that will open the driver's door. Once you enter the vehicle, hold the Smart Key next to the START button and depress. This will most likely allow the engine to start. If the engine doesn't start and the power door locks are inoperable, the concern may be a weak engine battery and not a weak Smart Key battery.

While driving, the multi-display screen displayed an error message stating "key not detected in vehicle". Why did this occur?
This occurs when the Smart Key is not being detected in the vehicle for some reason. It is possible the key was in a purse or other location, and something was covering the key which caused the signal to be blocked. If the error message continues, give us a call at (844) 206-4893 to set up an appointment.

Where can I purchase navigation system map updates?
Navigation map updates can be purchased through our Fordham Toyota Parts Department. The software is typically updated annually in the fall. We recommend that you give us a call before making your purchase because the updates may not be significant in your driving area. Also, please note that areas of detailed mapping are primarily located around population centers.

Whom can I contact regarding the tire warranty on my Toyota vehicle?
The tires that come as original equipment on your vehicle are warranted by their manufacturer and not Toyota. The tire warranty information is located in the glove box of the vehicle. To obtain service for tire concerns, take the tire to an authorized dealership of the tire manufacturer. NOTE: We sell a variety of Toyota Tires at our Parts store.
